New Board Member

With the resignation of both Judy Russell (moved to Converse Free Library in NH) and Mary Danko (moved to Sunapee Library in NH) the Board elected Kim Peine to the Board of Directors.  She will fulfill Judy Russell’s term (2016).

Executive Director Hired

Lisa Von Kann has been hired to be the Executive Director of GMLC. This is a one year contract from 3/1/13- 3/1/14.  We are all very happy to have Lisa aboard. She will be meeting with Diane Dupre, GMLC’s bookkeeper on March 28th.

ListenUP! Vermont Update

Lyndsey Runyan is the ‘new’ LUV coordinator.  She is also handling uploading MARC records (thank you Lyndsey!)  Lyndsey can be contacted at vtaudiobooks@gmail.com.  Hannah Peacock is the new selector for Children’s materials.

Mango Update

Chris and Lucinda created a renewal/enrollment form and emailed them to all GMLC libraries in late January.  Currently there are 21 libraries participating.

VOKAL Update

Wendy reported that the VOKAL Executive Group decided to close membership for the time being.  Energy and time will be spent on cleaning up the catalog and system.  Kim and Richard are planning to attend VTLIB’s Catamount meetings.

Other Business

• Lucinda re-subscribed to GoToMeeting via TechSoup for another year.
• Lisa Von Kann will contact the VLC planning group to reserve a space/time for our annual GMLC meeting (May 21, 2013)

What is an unconference? An unconference is a format, different than a
workshop or lecture, a participant-driven approach celebrating our
everyday problem solving. We’ll collect your ideas before the date and
create sessions that center on a tech topic. You can expect to attend
3-4 roundtable sessions with colleagues, sharing challenges and
innovations.

Our purpose: bring people together, of all skill levels, that manage
technology in Vermont’s public libraries, to discuss the best tools,
how to manage them, and move our libraries forward. Hear what other
libraries are doing and to share your ideas.

*3 credits can be applied to the technology requirement for DOL certification

Greetings. I’d like to take this opportunity to invite anyone with an interest to join what we’re calling the VT Library Tech Club. It’s intended to be an informal group to discuss technology in libraries, to ask questions, share experiences, and collaborate within the state. We’re not assuming a particular level of experience with technology, just an interest in the topic. Along with New Hampshire Libraries & Members of the Maine Regional Library System, GMLC members will be able to take advantage of discounts and *free* shipping from many vendors for Print & Multimedia Materials, Furniture, Equipment & Library Supplies and Technology Supplies.

All of the details are outlined in the Vendor Discount Catalog and will be effective from July 1, 2012 – June 30, 2015 as long you are an active member in GMLC.  The Vendor Discount Catalog is available online and may be accessed with a login & password by one member of your library staff.

One member of your library must sign the electronic agreement for the conditions of  SCOOP and then that person will receive the url, login & password for SCOOP via the email they’ve given.

This program is a benefit of being a member of the Green Mountain Library Consortium.  Special thanks to Wendy Hysko for pursuing and organizing this project.  If you would like to volunteer to help with other consortium projects that can save us money, please contact Mary Danko at HartlandDir[at]vermontel.net

As some of you know Overdrive has a program which enables individual libraries to have their own collection of eContent through the ListenUp! Vermont site called Overdrive Advantage.  GMLC has not had a formal policy on this option in the past, but now feel it is important that if libraries want to sign up for this option through Overdrive that some consideration should be made to GMLC as we do provide the platform and tech support for ListenUp! Vermont.

After surveying, research and much thoughtful discussion, the GMLC board has decided for the remainder of the 2012 membership year, that is until December 31, that if any library decides to participate in Overdrive Advantage there will be a Consortium Consideration Fee of $250 per library.

We are hoping that the beginnings of experimentation with the program will better inform us on how to proceed next year with fees.  Any input or thoughts you might have are most welcome.  Please feel free to share your thoughts with any of the board members.

In the frenzy of the Vermont Library Association Conference and the GMLC Annual Meeting a very important ceremony was forgotten!  Nancy Tusinski, long time volunteer for GMLC, was to receive her Vermont Department of Libraries Librarian Certificate during the GMLC Annual Meeting.  I am so sorry this did not occur and want to extend my apologies to Nancy for this oversight.  I would like to take this opportunity to give her our heartiest congratulations!  In other good news, Nancy began as the new director for the Weathersfield Proctor Library 1 month ago.  Congratulations and best of luck Nancy!
