As many of you know, the idea of having courier delivery service for Inter-Library Loans and other inter-library deliveries is one that our member libraries have been interested in for quite some time, and one we have been discussing with the Vermont Consortium of Academic Libraries (VCAL).
We are pleased to announce the creation of a Courier Delivery Task Force in partnership not only with VCAL but with the Vermont Department of Libraries. The DOL will be coordinating the task force, which is planned to begin its work in July. There is no cost to participate; it is our hope that one of the outcomes of the task force will be a detailed feasibility study. The times and locations of the meetings are not as yet decided.
If you are interested in being part of the task force, please send a brief email to our State Librarian, Martha Reid, at martha.reid[at]mail.dol.state.vt.us. If you would like to participate, but attending meetings in person would prohibit you from doing so, please let Marty know in your email.
At this point, we are moving forward with the project under the assumption that our member libraries will be interested in the service as long as it costs less than what they are currently spending on supplies and postage. With this assumption, there is not the need at this time to let the GMLC, VCAL, or the DOL know that your library is interested in the service.
