For those of us with downloadable audio patrons with smart phones, OverDrive has finally released the app for the iPhone (link to iTunes store), joining the app for the Blackberry, Windows Mobile phones, and for Android phones, all of which are available for download on the OverDrive Media Console page.
If your patrons have an iPod Touch or an iPhone, completing the download process just got much easier. Patrons on any of these Internet-enabled phones will need to browse the Listen Up! Vermont website using the phone’s browser; when they click on download in the website, the app will open on your phone to finish the process. This removes the step of having to download to your computer and transfer the files to your device.
iPod Touch and iPhone users will have to be sure to download only mp3 formatted titles; if you try to download a WMA title, the app will give a clear message that it cannot complete the process.
From the press release:
All of these apps are important to promote to your patrons, with signage at the desk, articles in your local paper or newsletter, on Facebook, your library’s blog, etc. By far, the greatest number of technical issues revolve around the downloading and transferring of titles — help your patrons have a much easier and more successful experience with OverDrive by letting them know about these apps.
